Overview

Wear It For Berrett is a youth-centric nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting helmet safety and brain injury prevention awareness. Through partnerships and donations, they strive to ensure everyone has access to helmets, regardless of their financial situation. The organization's mission is deeply personal, stemming from the memory of a young skater and budding entrepreneur named Berrett, whose life was tragically cut short due to an injury that could have been prevented by using a helmet. His passion for skateboarding and his drive to launch his brand left a lasting impression on his family and friends. In honor of Berrett, Wear It For Berrett was founded to spread the message of helmet safety and prevent others from experiencing similar losses.

In our partnership with Wear It For Berrett, Firebrand took on the challenge of developing a compelling brand identity that could effectively convey the importance of helmet safety. Our approach combined heartfelt storytelling with science-based recommendations and cool, youth-oriented designs to encourage helmet use. This multifaceted strategy involved several key elements aimed at creating a powerful and engaging campaign.

One of the first steps we took was to create a visual identity that captured the essence of Berrett's story and the organization's mission. We infused Berrett's dreams and the importance of helmet safety into every design, ensuring that his story resonated emotionally with the audience. To connect with the youth, we adopted a graffiti style for the branding, urging young people to make a positive mark on their world by prioritizing helmet safety. This approach not only appealed to the target demographic but also gave the campaign a distinctive and memorable look.

Our next focus was on developing interactive and inclusive content that would engage both kids and adults. We rolled out interactive checklists and social media graphics designed to get people clicking, sharing, and discussing helmet safety. These materials were crafted to maintain a universal appeal, speaking to the youth and their parents alike, thereby driving home the helmet safety message effectively.

The digital and social media strategy played a crucial role in the campaign's success. We developed a WordPress website for Wear It For Berrett, which served as the central hub for all their initiatives. The website provided resources, stories, and ways for people to get involved, ensuring that the message of helmet safety reached a broad audience. Leveraging social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, we created compelling content that encouraged sharing and discussions about helmet safety. Additionally, the branding extended to e-commerce products, helping to raise funds and awareness through the sale of branded merchandise.

To amplify our outreach efforts, we strategically partnered with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), recognizing their role as Trusted Messengers within underserved and at-risk communities. These partnerships were essential in ensuring the campaign's message reached those who needed it the most. 

The grassroots methods employed by Wear It For Berrett proved to be highly effective. The hashtag #wearitforberrett gained substantial traction on social media, significantly increasing engagement and spreading the message of helmet safety far and wide. Participation in high-profile events, such as the openings of Tony Hawk skate parks across the Western United States, helped broaden the campaign’s reach, bringing the message of helmet safety to diverse audiences across various sports. The campaign also extended its reach into skiing, bull riding, and mountain biking circuits, showcasing its versatility and wide appeal.

A significant milestone for the campaign was its inclusion in a large-scale skateboarding mural in New York City. This high-visibility placement not only amplified the campaign’s message but also served as a powerful reminder of Berrett’s legacy and the importance of helmet safety.

Our comprehensive approach, blending heartfelt storytelling with innovative visual design and strategic partnerships, has helped ensure the brand's success in promoting helmet safety and preventing brain injuries. Through our collaborative efforts, Wear It For Berrett has been able to make a significant impact, helping to save lives and honor the memory of a young skater whose legacy continues to inspire.
